Should Christians Worship Jesus?
One of my favorite quotations by Jesus was when he was talking to his disciples and in reference to his miracles said, "you will do greater things than these." It has always led me to believe that mans mission is to find his divinity and express it. If I can do greater things than Jesus then am I as divine as him or do I have more potential than him? Jesus' quote seems to suggest that yet Christians today "Worship" Jesus. They get on their knees to Jesus and supplicate themselves to their "Master". With Jesus' continual refusal to accept praise in his life, should Christians worship him today?

ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Chris. I believe that Jesus was telling us to find and express our own divinity. We are meant to view him as an older brother, giving us advice, providing us with a model and a mentor, pulling for us to express our own mature divinity. He is a wonderful Wayshower, not one to be worshipped as out of our league or out of our reach. No doubt about it, he was an amazing person, wise, humble, just and all-loving, but he never called himself Son of God but Son of Man. As are we. . .
When I was young i always thought it was interesting that a minister would say that we are all God's children and that Jesus was the son of God. But then hold Jesus in a different light then everyone else. We are all at different places in our journeys but none is better than the other.
ReplyDeleteI think about flying on vacation. To complete the trip I need the jet, shuttle buses, my car, the rental car, and walking. Flying is not better than walking, it is faster over long distances but I can't take a jet to the kitchen, on the other hand I can't walk to Jamaica. These are just different parts of the journey, all are needed and all are equal.
In the same way enlightenment is not better than dispare. Love, peace dispare, and anger are all just places along the trail, and we can't get from shame to love without moving through anger and pride. The path is a staircase the last step is higher but not better and every step is needed.
So I think we should look to Jesus as a coach, a teacher, a mentor or a wayshower. Then know that the secret to moving along the path is letting go. As we give our lives to God we move closer to enlightenment.
Peace begins with me,
Mark Rose
